The Bradenton Marauders exploded for a 12-run barrage through the first four innings and never looked back, cruising to a commanding 13–3 win over the Clearwater Threshers Friday night at BayCare Ballpark. Fueled by a relentless offensive attack and a stellar start from right-hander Peyton Stumbo, the Marauders overwhelmed the Threshers in a game that lasted just under three hours.
The game started as a quiet affair. Both teams went scoreless in the first inning, with Bradenton tallying two hits off Clearwater starter Orlando Gonzalez but unable to push a run across. Gonzalez looked sharp early, recording a strikeout and inducing a double play to end the threat. Peyton Stumbo matched the tone for Bradenton, scattering one hit in a scoreless bottom half.
The bats came alive in the second inning for the Marauders. First baseman Derek Berg broke the deadlock with a towering two-run home run to right field. Moments later, center fielder Braylon Bishop delivered a two-run RBI knock, capping a four-run outburst as Bradenton tagged Gonzalez for four hits in the frame.
The fourth inning proved to be the turning point. Clearwater turned to relieving pitcher A.J. Wilson, but the move backfired. Wilson issued five walks and allowed four runs to score before being pulled. Erik Ritchie entered in relief but struggled just the same, giving up a three-run homer to shortstop Joel Mendez and a sacrifice pop fly to Derek Berg for a one-run RBI. By the end of the fourth, Bradenton had ballooned its lead to 12–0.
Clearwater finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth when center fielder Avery Owusu-Asiedu launched a solo home run off reliever Adolfo Oviedo. The Threshers added another run in the bottom of the sixth on first baseman Kodey Shojinaga’s RBI hit. Clearwater would score one additional run in the bottom of the eighth, but the onslaught had already been done.
Bradenton added one final run in the top of the seventh to cap off a 13-run, 14-hit performance. The five Bradenton Marauders pitchers—Peyton Stumbo, Adolfo Oviedo, Jesus Clode, Jose Garces, and Jake Shirk—combined to hold Clearwater to just three runs on seven hits, striking out a collective ten, giving up one home run, and issuing only three walks.
Bradenton improved their record to 26–29 with a dominating win as they continue their road trip, currently sitting 5.5 games behind in fifth place in the Western Conference of the Florida State League standings. Clearwater moves to 30–25, now 1.5 games behind and falling to third in the West, as they look to regroup ahead of the next matchup in the series on Saturday, June 7.
The Lakeland Flying Tigers remain locked in the top spot of the West with a 31–23 record so far this season.
